Extreme Fundation with Silvia

My second online class is Silvia's extreme foundation.

To be honest - I thought Niah and I will drop out from this class.. because the first lesson was verbal que proofing and teaching cik vs. cap,  In-in vs. Out..
it was the hardest thing to teach...
Niah actually knows well about Right and Left command because I make him to spin to both direction so we became very good at it.
but I gave up on using cik/cap command at trial already, because I always get confused and not telling right command to him.. so I have been only using cik cik for all tight turn, and mostly using my body que to tell which way to turn.

Of Cause_ Niah wouldn't know the command if I don't use it correctly.

First 2 weeks was a bit too hard - I didn't enjoy the lessons at all.
but we are taking baby steps on verbals cues and we are slowly getting better every time.
Looks like I just need to keep on practice and be consistent in que!!!

2nd lesson gets a bit more fun -practicing come to hand - obstacle discrimination!
such a fun exercise and Niah and I LOVEd this :D exactly what we needed to practice!!

2017 Our agility plan!

My 2017 started with full of training plans and I have now on going 3 online classes!
Ambitious plan but so far, I am in control and enjoying little play with Koto and Niah.

I am not a dog trainer or agility handler as I dream but I love playing with dogs and training Koto and Niah lift my life and I want to keep on learning even they are getting older.   We always have some topic to train, and when we crush on a problem, we just need to move on and try to fix that problem by happy training.  Most importantly, we need to keep on moving and never give up on those issues.  So here we have 3 lessons!!

But started with a year with "a real life- training" at last weekend, I attend Australian agility instructor's workshop - and it was fun and made me think of a lot of detail of handling.  Megan gave me a great tips, especially for the fraction moment of connecting with dogs, and early que, handler's location, etc.. a lot of details to think about when I am running at the course. It was such a nice seminar.

I am still taking handling class with Zeljko.
He is the best instructor I have ever had,  we improved so much from his comment, thinking of handling, comparing handling choices-  I will definitely continue to learn from him until he is available.   Niah is awesome with Zeljko's course.  He can run most of very complicated courses. Here is one of the lesson from January.

Agility trial in Slovenia

September 10th Saturday, We visit Slovenian Agility competition with Gabi.
The venue was located in the middle of beautiful Slovenian mountain valley.
Not only stunning location with layers and layers of mountains, there was also crystal clear mountain river stream and very well looked after community or shared garden right next to the competition. I assume all the vegetable has full of mountain mineral water, looks very healthy and full of nutrition :) Yum!

We set up shade tent before the course set up :D Gabi is very organised!!
This never happened to me in my whole agility life. lol

Not only the location, the organization and people were really lovely.  People brought beautiful cakes and sweets to collect donation to replace jumps.  Very good idea to get donation for updating equipment.  The cake were really tasty, the best quality sweets and yes, we donate a lot to swap with those best looking and delicious cakes!

Too many sweets photos :)

Another surprise was I saw 2 police man hanging out at the competition with glass of beer! I'm not really sure they were working, but on police uniform.. so we thought they were at work :) Probably not much crime happening here!

It was comfortable temperature in the morning, but afternoon had quite strong sun. The organiser did made announcement to not leave your dogs in the car.
I notice many people uses Silver sun reflection cloth over the car, and it reflect 70% of sun.  Nice product for Australian sun and I always wanted to buy this.  This is going to be my souvenir!

Anyways, back to agility. There was only one ring in this competition so most of people had only 2 runs in all one day. A1 (Novice) and A2 (Excellent) start in the morning, and compete in the morning only.  A3 starts in the afternoon, this means when you became A3, you can wake up at 10 or 11 am, then come to competition in the afternoon!! Or you can go home and relax in the afternoon when you are competing with A1 or A2 dogs.  How nice is this system?

I think having a one ring only - makes people very relax and watch other people's runs. You can really concentrate on your dog, never need to rush like here in Australia, always have so many runs in a day. I saw many handlers are helping another handler at course walk, giving some handling tips.

People are looking at competition result and time.
The result is up on the board as soon as the competition finished.

One of the jumping course in A2.
Courses were very nice.  I really liked A3 course! Challenging yet fast and flows well.

After watched everyone's run all day, we felt we were so lucky to watched very high quality agility and very relaxed and happy dogs at this competition.  There are so many famous top handlers, I always watch those peoples run on youtube, but videos never captures their connection with the dogs so it was very exciting for me to watch how those people play and warm up/ cool down their dogs, and how they reward dogs!

How cool to hang out with Puppy Diary star, Silvia's To and Monika's Sheltie Seven?
Unfortunately To had a toe injury so we couldn't watch her run this day, but wow, she is pretty and super friendly ❤

I saw many shaved Border Collie and Shelties!! wow :D

Bi's amazing cik/cap ❤
Silvia practicing start stay with Le just before her run.

As we are not even allowed to tug with dogs in the ring or even after the run, Slovenian dogs excitement/ speed or happiness is completely different level to Australian competition.  It is the most stupid rules we have and truly old fashion, I believe this rule came from obedience competition, and we felt that we really really needs to change this rule to achieve "Real Agility".
I felt it is most important thing to consider right now, upgrading equipment is next!!.
I hope Australian competition will be more relaxed about it and allow people to train at the competition someday. Restriction for tugging and "must put dogs on lead before leave the ring" totally putting dog's excitement off.

Super midget in action!! Wow a real Le was super fast, (everyone knows she is super fast, but actually she was faster than you see on video!)
I just couldn't believe that my camera actually caught her running :)

 Perfect Matej's Juice!

Here is a video of the wonderful day's run. (Miha and Duce)

prize for being healthy! (sometimes!)

Koto and Niah was mostly injured for 2015, and 2016 but they both did really well in between! As I wrote before with Koto's National 3rd place, Niah also received 2 trophies from our agility club for gaining 2 titles. :)
I just loooove this wing jump trophy from England! very cute and very rewarding for what I do, such a great little prize!

Nationals 3-5 Days

Photos from Animal Action Shot (Niki Drage) Thank you!!!

Ahh! If you are ever visiting here few times, So sorry, I totally abandon my blog for awhile, Its been somewhat chaotic days, and I just didn't have time for my diary!
So.. Its been too long to report the nationals now, so quickly (in English!)
Niah and I couldn't get to the final because of unlucky one bar!! every run, and he also gets scared of see-saw and totally refused to go to Dog walk and See saw.
I didn't run all the agility unforturately.
Koto and Dean did awesome on Sunday's JDM final and the acutally clear run with Dean's amazing calmness and concentration. I always suprise how good is Dean, when he does things in the most nervous situations, He is really amazing husband (sometimes!!)
And I am so so proud of my crazy Koto did her best, jumping the height she hasn't jump for 2 years, stayed calm and did exactly Dean asked! Very good girl :)

The Nationals 1-3 days.

The Nationals officially started on Wednesday, and we needed check in on Tuesday,
it is nearly a week of agility while you are camping or staying in this area.
We thought our dogs are not fit enough to do agility for 5 days, in fact they are just came back from injury and not enough muscle to support their strength.
On Wednesday was pretty crappy weather and we just stayed in Bed and totally relaxed at beach walk! We also did shopping not in lush, then finally drove to the Wirrina cove!

The location was spectacular, it was more than I was expected, surrounded by nature and ocean, such a pretty area to do agility while you are camping in the cove!
We put up our tent, cooked dinner properly, eat well -  then finally ready for the event!

Thursday was beautiful day, and both Koto and Niah were looking good at Jumping.
Niah had unfortunate 1 bar,  but Koto was lucky enough to get to the 9th!!! and qualified for the final!! woo hoo!!

Unfortunately, Niah had a terrible experience at the practice area's see saw, it was bad see saw and made huge bang noise, he freaked out and decided to continued to freak out on his favorite Dog Walk as well :( it was hardbreaking that he couldn't even stand at Dog walk. I scratched from every agility event. it was sad..

Friday, we had massive storm!! so event was cancelled!! well, I thought it was great decision, dog's safety is the most important and saving the ground for the weekend was very good idea!!

木 曜日のジャンピングはとってもいい調子!JDM(ジャンピングドックマスター、3度?)

SA Agility Nationals trip Day:2-3 at Goolwa holiday

We really loved laid back little town Goolwa and Victor Habour.
There are quite many old aged people lives there but also had nice sight seeing places and cute cafe and nice restaurants. We enjoyed walking around the town and also visit bird sanctuary national park island, let the dogs to stretch out their legs, and watched beautiful sunset.  Very relaxing time!!

During the day, we did a bit of practice jumping with our portable wing jumps!
wow, they are really awesome!  so light weight and we can do jumping anywhere we go!
